Seminar on enhancing capability thru' TQM held in city

A two-day seminar on 'Enhancing Capability of the Light Engineering Sector of Bangladesh through the application of Total Quality Management (TQM)' ended in the city Saturday.
The seminar was jointly organised by Japan-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JBCCI), Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO), Bangladesh AOTS Alumni Society (BAAS) and Bangladesh Society for Total Quality Management (BSTQM).
The objective of the seminar was to help the country's light engineering sector in improving the quality of their products and service for the domestic and export markets through the application of the TQM techniques.
As many as 50 participants from different light engineering industries attended the seminar. The resource persons for the seminar were high-level Bangladeshi TQM experts, trained in Japan through AOTS and other programmes.
Japanese Ambassador in Bangladesh Masayuki Inoue was the chief guest of the opening ceremony. The other speakers of the programme included JBCCI President Hideo Ueno, JETRO Dhaka Office Representative Tomohiro Kinomoto, BAAS President Syed Masud Hasan, BSTQM Acting President Mokarram Uddin Ahmed and representative of the organisers AKM Moazzem Hussain.
The organisers also held a TQM seminar at Srimongol for the country's tea sector in last November, and another in Dhaka for the leather and leather goods sector in last June. Other potential sectors of the country will also be taken up one by one in future, said a press release.
