Seminar on IFD stresses on saving environment

RAJSHAHI, Mar 22: A seminar jointly organised by Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation Department and Social Forestry department, Rajshahi, in observance of International Forestry Day, was held at Borail high school playground under Mohanpur upazila of the district on Friday. More than 400 people including teachers and students joined the seminar.
The theme of the IFD of the year was "Save the Forest for Life and Livelihood".
Professor Dr. Abdul Mannan of department of Zoology of Rajshahi University read out the keynote paper at the function.
Presided over by Ajit Kumar Rudra, Divisional Forest Officer of Social Forestry Department, Rajshahi, the seminar was attended and addressed, among others, by Mollah Rezaul Karim, Divisional Forest Officer, Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation Department, Rajshahi, as the chief guest, Shamim Ahmed, Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Mohanpur as special guest and Mehedizzaman, Assistant Forest Conservator, Mohanpur.
Speakers at the function urged all to become conscious for saving forest and natural environment to ensure a livable globe for our next generation. He said, due to increasing demand of forest resources and increase of population world-wide, the forest resources were jeopardized and the habitat of wildlife were squeezed. As a result, more than 100 wildlife have already become extinct from the world during the last one century and natural balance of the globe was at stake with recurrent climatic hazards and adverse impact on agriculture and forestry.
