BHOLA, Apr 23 (UNB): RAB and police barred around 20 central leaders of BNP and its front organisations from entering into Lalmohan Upazila in Bhola Friday.
The leaders are Maudud Ahmed, Altaf Hossain Chowdhury, Mujibur Rahman Sarwar MP, Harunur Rashid Chowdhury MP, Abdu-llah Al Noman, Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anny MP, Moazzem Hossain Alal, Saiful Alam Nirob and Shahjahan Khan.
The BNP leaders were going to Lalmohan Upazila from Bhola at about 10:30am apparently for quiet campaign for their candidate Maj (retd) Hafiz.
As they reached Kunzerhat in Borhan-uddin Upazila, RAB and police stopped them, citing a directive of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) ATM Shamsul Huda that no outsider would be allowed to enter Bhola-3 constituency after April 22.
Being obstructed, the BNP leaders were staying there.
The stranded leaders through their central office in Dhaka contacted the Election Commission (EC) to seek permission to go to Lalmohan.
Electorates in Lalmohan and Tajumuddin upazilas are poised to cast their votes in Saturday's by-polls in Bhola-3 constituency.
Ruling Awami League candidate Nurunnabi Chowdhury Shawon and BNP candidate ex-minister Major (retd) Hafizuddin Ahmed are fighting for the seat.
