Sensex jumps over 450 pts

The S&P BSE Sensex surged over 450 points in trade on Friday tracking positive trend seen in other Asian markets. The broader 50-share Nifty barometer also managed to reclaim its crucial psychological resistance level of 8050 and was nearing its next level of 8,100. The gains on the benchmark indices were led by buying witnessed in stocks of banking heavyweights such as Axis Bank, HDFC BankBSE 1.66 % and ICICI BankBSE 1.71 %. CNX Bank Nifty shot nearly 300 points in trade today. The overall market sentiment was positive, with seven out of every 10 BSE stocks quoting with a positive bias. The S&P BSE Midcap Index was up 1.44 per cent and BSE S&P Smallcap Index edged higher by 1.37 per cent. S&P BSE Power Index was the top sectoral gainer, up 2.24 per cent. Torrent Power BSE 2.43 %, NTPCBSE 4.66 % contributed most to the gains. S&P BSE Consumer Durables Index gained the least, up 0.19 per cent. Symphony BSE -4.38 % contributed to the falls. At 11.30am, Sensex: 26,602, up 371 points; Nifty: 8,067, up 118 points, according to a news agency.
