CHITTAGONG, June 19: New rules for construction of buildings in Chittagong city area have been finalised by the Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) with the mandatory provision of preserving and using rain water in every house and keeping green compound in front of the constructed structures.

The new rules, awaiting formal announcement, also impose bar on demolition of any traditional building, CDA sources said.

There had been no separate rules and regulation specified for construction of the buildings in the port city.

Considering the changed circumstances accompanying overall environment and other relevant issues the CDA framed separate rules and regulations for construction of buildings in Chittagong.

The CDA has obtained opinions from concerned quarters including representatives of engineering and architectural bodies and civil society.

The specified rules and regulation charter were sent to the concerned ministry a year ago. It is now awaiting approval of the Law Ministry.

Following the approval, it is expected to be published in the form of a gazette within a month.

CDA sources further said, in the newly framed rule, concerned engineers and architects should abide by the approved design strictly and would be accountable for any deviation.
