Popular TV presenter of agricultural programmes and co-owner of private television Channel i, Shykh Seraj, celebrates his 55th birthday today. He was born in 1954 in Chandpur and was brought up in his parents residence at Khilgaon in the capital. He received honours and masters degrees in Geography from the University of Dhaka.
Seraj was actively involved with media in the form of cultural activities and development journalism since his student life. In 1982, he started a programme titled 'Mati O Manush' in state-owned Bangladesh Television as a presenter. His programme revolutionised the country's agriculture sector.
In 1995, he received the coveted Ekushey Padak, a national award. Seraj has been working as a director and head of news of Channel i since its inception in 1999.
He won Ashoka Award (USA) in 1992 and Presidents' Award on Agriculture in 1995.
