Serious heist at Chandpur govt warehouse

A huge quantity of rice and wheat was allegedly stolen from the stock of the government food warehouse at Matlab Dakkhin upazila of Chandpur district. Sources said following an instruction from the deputy commissioner of Chandpur, executive magistrate Runa Laila carried out an inspection at the government warehouse at Nayergaon village on July 1 to see herself the latest condition of grains stored there and found 1,500 sacks of rice and 213 sacks of wheat missing. Upazila Food Controller Chai Khoayai Marma, OC of Nayergaon Food Warehouse Md Jahangir Alam and Assistant Food Inspector Md Kamrul Islam were also present at that time. During the inspection, it was shown that there was a stock of 7,332 sacks of rice and 4,229 sacks of wheat at the food warehouse. However, it was found that the go-down actually had a stock of 5,832 sacks of rice and 4,016 sacks of wheat, showing a shortage of 1,500 sacks of rice and 213 sacks of wheat from the total stock. Officials concerned said the value of the missing food grains is about Tk 1.86 million. The missing food grains might have been stolen from the warehouse recently, they said, according to a news agency.
