Services to char people for faster dev stressed

GAIBANDHA, May 14 (BSS): Speakers at a function here stressed the need for ensuring human rights and providing the government services to the neglected and underprivileged Char dwellers for their faster socio-economic development.
"Living standard of the backward Char people will be improved if the services on health, education, agriculture and communication from the government and non government organisations are provided for them properly", they said.
They made the comments while addressing a-day long orientation of human rights and good governance at the conference room of Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer here Wednesday.
They also said due to different reasons the char dwellers are deprived of the existing facilities of the state but yet, they are living in chars by struggling with natural calamities like flood, drought and cold wave.
In this context, they also took all possible steps in reaching all govt. services including non-government ones to the remote Char areas to bring them under the live light of the development for mitigating their sufferings.
Friendship, a national non government organisation, organised the function under its Access to a Better Life Project funded by Manusher Jonno Foundation.
Upazila Parishad Chairman Abdur Rashid Sarker attended the function as the chief guest while UNO Ashib Ahsan was in the chair.
The function was addressed, among others, by Upazila health and family planning officer Dr. Shahadat Hossain, Upazila family planning officer Yakub Hossain, Upazila education officer Sonali Sarker, Upazila youth development officer Jafar Ali Loskar, programme manager Ahmed Toufiqur Rahman, district coordinator Abdul Halim and project coordinator M. Zakir Hossain.
They also thanked friendship for conducting different activities for char people of the district and its neighboring Kurigram district for long aimed at helping them attain sustainable developments in all sectors.
A large number of upazila level Govt. officials took part in the orientation.
