Set up units or plots will be re-allotted

Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu threatened Thursday  to cancel allocation of plots at the BSCIC Jamdani Industrial Estate and distribute those among new entreprenurs, if the allottees fail to set up their units there within the stipulated time.
The minister made the announcement while inaugurating the week-long Jamdani exhbition, organised by the Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) at National Museum in the city, as the chief guest. Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Nur was prseent as the special guest.
Mr Amu said the government has set up the Jamdani Industrial Estate in Roopganj, Narayanganj at the cost of Tk 58.6 million to flourish the country's traditional Jamdani industry. There are 409 plots in the 20-acre estate, out of which 399 have been already allotted among entreprenurs.
He informed that the country yearly earns US$ 15.8 million from Jamdani export.
He also suggested strengthening research for sustainable flourishing of Jamdani industry in the country.
Mr Nur said Bangladeshi Jamdani has been acknowledged as the world cultural heritage. Although India raised objection, the country could not surpass Bangladesh in producing quality Jamdani.
BSS adds: The minister also said Bangladesh's jamdani industry is not an imposed one as the eye- catching jamdanis are produced here for hundreds of years.
The minister stressed the need for exchanging knowledge and experience among the concerned departments under the ministries of Industries and Cultural Affairs to give a big boost to the potential jamdani industry.
Later, the ministers went round different stalls of the fair, which will remain open to all from 9 am to 4 pm everyday.
