Setting up blood banks in rural areas
Wednesday, 20 July 2022
In Bangladesh, there are numerous patients who need timely blood transfusion. However, many are devoid of this life-saving intervention as they live in rural areas, where there are no blood banks. Blood bank is available only in big cities like Dhaka, Chattogram, Khulna and Rajshahi.
The patients of rural areas have to travel to the capital or other cities to receive blood transfusion. This not only takes time and costs money but could also prove deadly for those whose health conditions are too critical for travelling long distances. The authorities concerned should establish blood banks in rural areas at the earliest. As a stopgap arrangement, mobile blood banks or social media platforms for blood transfusion can also be created.
