Seven BNP men remanded in BTV rampage case

Former BRACU teacher, JU student on remand in Setu Bhaban attack case

A Dhaka court has placed seven leaders and activists of BNP on a four-day remand in a case lodged over rampaging state-owned Bangladesh Television (BTV) Bhaban at Rampura in the capital, reports BSS.
The accused who were put on remand are Saiful Islam Nirob, Shimul Biswas, Rafikul Islam Majnu, Rashiduzzaman Millat, Syed Ehsanul Huda, Mohiuddin Hridoy, and Tarikul Islam.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbubul Haque passed the order on Monday as police produced them before the court after their five-day remand in the Setu Bhaban vandalising case ended. Police pleaded to show them arrested in the BTV rampage case and to place them on a 10-day remand.
Meanwhile, a Dhaka court has granted a six-day remand for Asif Mahtab, former teacher of BRAC University, and Arif Sohel, coordinator of Anti-discrimination Student Movement at Jahangirnagar University in the Setu Bhaban attack case, reports UNB.
Metropolitan Magistrate Moinul Islam passed the order on Monday as inspector Abu Sayeed Mia, investigating officer of Detective Branch (DB) of police presented the accused in court with a 10-day remand prayer.
The defense lawyer Syed Zainul Abedin Mezbah argued for the cancellation of the remand and requested bail on behalf of the accused.
Sub-Inspector Shah Alam from the general registration branch of the Banani thana confirmed the remand details.
