CHITTAGONG, Sept 14 (BSS): A Chittagong court put seven activists of the Chittagong University (CU) chapter of Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS) on two-day remand today in connection with a case filed over the attacks on CU teachers.
Chittagong Senior Judicial Magistrate Abu Saleh Mohammad Noman granted the two-day remand to each after Hathazari police prayed for a seven-day remand to the ICS activists, court sources said.
The ICS activists were Mostafa Kamal, Imam Hossain, Mohammad Yusuf, Towhidul Islam, Quamrul Barakat, Mamun Quazi and Shah Alam.
They were arrested from CU campus and different areas under Hathazari upazila over the attacks on CU teachers' buses.
At least 16 people including 10 teachers of CU were injured when the striking students, allegedly the ICS activists, lobbed crude bombs targeting two university buses carrying faculty members at Fatehabad Chhorarkul area of Hathazari Wednesday morning. Campus sources said CU unit of ICS under the banner of general students enforced an indefinite general strike on the campus demanding reopening of Suhrawardy Hall and Shah Amanat Hall, which were closed following clashes between ICS and Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists.
UNB adds: Police recovered 21 hand bombs from a jungle adjacent to F Rahman Hall of Chittagong University Sunday.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Hathazari thana Ismail Hossain said being informed by local people they recovered the bombs from two abandoned bags in the jungle.
