Seven die in Gopalganj road crash

At least seven people, including six of a family, were killed and another member of the family was injured in a road accident in Gopalganj district on Saturday. Witnesses said a microbus rammed into a battery-operated auto-rickshaw on the Gopalganj-Kotalipara road in Shibpur area of the district in the morning. Police and hospital sources said the microbus ran over the battery-run three-wheeler locally called as easybike. All the dead and injured were on the easybike when the microbus hit the vehicle. Sources said one person died on the spot while six others succumbed to their injuries at Gopalganj Sadar Hospital. The deceased were identified as Khokon Sikder,45, resident of Telagi village under Sadar upazila, his wife Chaina Begum, 38, daughters Aniya,16, and Chadni,8, his mother Katebunnessa,65, his nephew Sakib,13, and driver of the three-wheeler Swapan Sarder, 35, son of Kalam, resident of Khanarpar village of the same upazila.--BSS
