FE REPORT
Law enforcement agencies have arrested seven individuals over the stabbing of a senior official of the National Institute of Cancer Research and Hospital (NICRH) in the capital's Mohakhali area, officials said on Tuesday.
The arrests were confirmed at a press briefing at the RAB Media Centre in Karwan Bazar by Commander MZM Intekhab Chowdhury, director of the Legal and Media Wing of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
The victim, Dr Ahmed Hossain, deputy director of NICRH, was attacked on Monday afternoon following a dispute between two groups over a tender related to the supply of X-ray machine films, the commander said.
Five of the accused -- Shariful Alam Karim, Aminul Islam alias Kalu, Sazzad Badi, Salauddin and Arifuzzaman -- were arrested by the elite force, while two others, Yusuf Ali and Nesar Ahmed, were detained by police.
OC of Banani Police Station Faridul Islam said the two suspects were arrested during a raid in Mohakhali on Monday.
RAB-1 Commander Md Neyamul Halim Khan said a longstanding dispute had been ongoing between "Rubel's EME Traders" and "Monayem Group" over the hospital's procurement of X-ray films.
