Seven killed in road accidents in dists

COMILLA, May 7 (UNB) : Four people were killed and six others injured in a three-pronged collision between a covered van, a truck and a pick-up van at Noabazar in Chouddagram Upazila early Saturday. One of the deceased was identified as Robiul, son of Monir Hossain of Hajiganj Upazila of Chandpur district while the identity of the three other deceased could not be known immediately. Police said the accident took place as the Dhaka-bound goods laden truck from Chittagong collided with a Feni-bound pick-up van from the district town which was later hit by the Chittagong-bound covered van, leaving three pick-up van passengers dead on the spot and seven others injured at around 5:30 am. The injured were rushed to Comilla Medical College Hospital (CMCH) where Robiul succumbed to his injuries. Later, five of the injured from CMCH were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital as their condition deteriorated. On information police recovered the bodies and sent those to hospital morgue for autopsy. Another report from Manikganj adds : A minor girl was killed as a bus ran over her in Joka area on Dhaka-Aricha highway in Sadar Upazila Saturday morning. The deceased was identified as Soma (6), daughter of Biltu Miah of Boinna-Prosad village in Ghior Upazila. Police and witnesses said the Paturia bound passenger bus ran over Soma when she was crossing the road at around 10am, leaving her dead on the spot. The body was sent to Sadar hospital morgue for autopsy. A case was filed. Another report from Brahmanbaria adds : A man was killed and two others were injured in separate road accidents in the district Friday. The deceased was identified as Halima (35), a resident of the town. Witnesses said Halima died on the spot when a local bus on Comilla-Sylhet highway hit her in Poirtola bus stand area of the district town at 10am. Locals caught the bus and its driver and blocked the highway for an hour protesting the accident. Later, police on information rushed to the spot and controlled the situation. Police also arrested the driver. In another accident, a couple sustained serious injuries in a collision between their private car and a truck at Budhondi in the town in the morning on Dhaka-Sylhet highway. The injured are Jamaluddin and his wife Minara Begum. They were rushed to Sadar hospital and later shifted to Dhaka for better treatment. Another report from Rajbari adds: A college teacher was killed when a truck dashed his motorcycle at Ahladipur in Sadar Upazila Thursday. The deceased was identified as Abul Kalam Azad (38), son of late Mohammad Ali of Barbakhpur village in Sadar Upazila and a teacher of Goalanda Kamrul Islam Degree College. Police and witnesses Azad while returning home by his bike from his college at around 3pm a speedy truck ran over him at the point, leaving him critically injured. He was first rushed to Sadar hospital and later to Faridpur Medical College Hospital as his condition deteriorated. Azad succumbed to his injuries on the way to Dhaka at about 7:45pm. Police seized the truck and arrested its driver. A case was filed.
