Seven poura officers including its acting chairman arrested

BAGERHAT, July 9 (UNB): The acting chairman and five ward commissioners of Mongla pourasava were arrested Monday on charge of corruption.
Shafiqur Rahman, Abdul Alim Haolader, Alauddin, Abdul Kader Haolader, Arifa Islam, Komola Begum and accountant Hannan Sheikh were picked up by a team of navy contingent from their office.
Naval sources said they were arrested on charge of misappropriation of Tk 18 million of the pourasava.
After interrogation they were handed over to Mongla thana.
Chairman of the pourasava Molla Abdul Jalil had been arrested earlier on charge of corruption.
In separate action, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) caught red handed Assistant Settlement Officer Profulla Kumar Mondal of Kachua and his agent Abdur Rab Sheikh while taking Tk 2,000 as bribe in his office at about 12:30 pm.
The RAB said they also recovered Tk 55,000, allegedly ill gotten money, from the house of Profulla.
