Severe loadshedding cripples business in B'baria

BRAHMANBARIA, July 23: Load-shedding has alarmingly increased in Brahmanbaria. The people of Brahmanbaria have to suffer severe heat in both day and night. The shopkeepers do not close their shops at 8 P.M. The students are not able to prepare their lessons owing to severe load-shedding. The boiler mills, rice mills, saw mills, oil mills, chemical industries, laboratories, and plastic, aluminium, biscuit factories and bakeries are on verge of closure due to severe load-shedding. The tired people are not able to take rest after coming back from office, schools and colleges.
Ceaseless power outage has almost paralysed the normal life affecting the daily activities of people from all spheres, and is causing huge loss to businessmen and production in mills and factories in the district, sources said.
The erratic power supply is also adversely affecting water supply in Upazila headquarters, treatment of patients in hospitals and clinics, work in banks, telephone exchange and educational institutions.
Local people have alleged that power goes off three to four times a day in the district town and ten to fifteen times in upazila headquarters.
Production in mills and factories declined and a good number of industrial units of BSCIC Shilpa area in the district are facing closure due to the erratic power supply causing huge loss to their owners.
Household equipment including television, computer, bulbs, fans, refrigerators etc are often damaged due to regular voltage fluctuation. Students are the worst sufferers of the power disruption.
Local people are demanding necessary steps to ensure regular power supply absence of which is severely paralysing the normal life of the people in the district.
