Sexual harassment at DU

I was shocked to know about the sexual harassment on Pahela Baishakh on Dhaka University campus. This has left a bitter taste in everybody's mouth. How can such a traditional institution like Dhaka University be a venue of a social crime like sexual harassment? Later when I spoke to a few ladies, they told me that they do not go out on such occasions as they have witnessed sexual harassment in the past and they now prefer to stay home on occasions when there are large gatherings.
I feel sorry for these women. The law enforcers are downplaying the incidents, but I think with CCTV footage in hand the police can easily identify the criminals and put them behind bars. The incidents damaged the confidence of the people in law enforcing agencies and it is a bad omen for the future. I hope, through the social media and the print media we can collectively hunt down at least a few of the perverts who were engaged in the sexual harassment on Pahela Baishakh and hand them over to the law enforcing agencies and make the country safe for women.
