Sexually harassed, girl ends life in Madaripur

A schoolgirl has allegedly committed suicide in Madaripur Sadar Upazila after being sexually harassed. The victim was identified as Azmeri Akhter Kiron, daughter of Siraj Matubbar of Pachkhola village and a Class-IX student of Pachkhola Muktisena High School and College. Victim’s family members claimed the girl ended her life by hanging herself from a rafter of the ceiling of their house. Locals said one Samrat Sardar, son of Latif Sardar of the village and also a wayward teenager, dragged Kiron up the first floor of the educational institution from the ground floor during the break hour on August 19. The school management formed a probe committee following the allegation filed by the victim on August 22. Akter Hossain Sentu, chairman of the managing committee of Pachkhola Muktisena High School and College, said the probe committee found the allegation to be true after investigation. The matter was set to be settled at a meeting at the school on August 23 (Sunday). However, Kiron committed suicide on Wednesday evening, according to bdnews24.com.
