Shab-e-Qadar, Jumatul Wida observed
Saturday, 19 September 2009
Muslims observed the holy night of Shab-e-Qadar, or Lailatul Qadar, Thursday night, marking the revelation of the holy Quran, reports bdnews24.com.
The Quran was revealed on this night to show mankind the path to eternal emancipation. The night has been described in the Quran as 'being better and holier than a thousand months'.
The night is observed after the Muslims break their fast of the 26th day of Ramadan, in offering prayers and seeking special divine blessings.
Islam says this one night's prayers should be worthier than a thousand nights' prayer offering.
It was observed with holding special prayer sessions and Milad Mahfils at mosques, seeking blessings from Allah.
Devotees also visited the graves of their near and dear ones and offered prayers for the salvation of the departed souls.
President Zillur Rahman, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Leader of the Opposition Khaleda Zia gave separate messages addressing the nation marking the holy Shab-e-Qadr.
At the national mosque Baitul Mukarram, after the Quran recital, Hamd-na'at, discussion and Milad, the final prayers were offered early Friday after the Fazr prayers.
The day after Shab-e-Qadar was an annual public holiday, though it fell on the weekly Friday holiday this year.
Meanwhile, BSS adds: Jumatul Wida, the last Juma in the holy month of Ramadan, was observed across the country Friday.
The largest Jumatul Wida congregation of the country was held at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in the capital where thousands of Muslims braving rains offered Juma prayers.
Many musallis (devotees) were seen offering prayers on the streets as the Jamaat spilled over outside the mosque.
A large number of police personnel were deployed outside the national mosque to prevent any untoward incident.
The other city mosques also witnessed a large number of musallis on the occasion.
Special Munajat was offered at all mosques of the country seeking blessings for peace, progress and prosperity of the nation as well as greater unity of the Muslim Ummah.
