RAJSHAHI UNIVERSITY, Nov 23: Shabash Bangladesh a liberation war monument is one of the best achievements of RU as the second largest educational institution of country. Its architectural beauty attracts visitors from home and abroad.
Anyone who steps into the campus for the first time is impressed by this sculpture. The sculpture is a unique work of late Nitun Kundu.
Shabash Bangladesh is located nearly 200 feet away from Rajshahi-Natore highway. So anybody can notice this captivating monument when he enters through the RU main gate.
The foundation of the monument was laid by the then RU VC Prof. M Amanullha on March 26 of 1990 in the face of strong demand for setting up a liberation war sculpture from the students and progressive teachers. At last it was opened by late Shaheed Janani Jahanara Imam on February 10 in 1992.
Shabash Bangladesh is not a result of a single effort. Former RU VC, students and teachers with leaders of RU central students union (RUCSU) in 1988-89 played a pioneering role in this regard.
However, the remarkable monument was designed by the artist himself. He did not receive any payment as remuneration for building the sculpture.
A large numbers of visitors come to the campus everyday from different parts of the country to admire the beauty of the monument.
