Shahidul Haque made IGP, Benazir Rab chief

Additional Inspector General of Police (Administration) Shahidul Haque has been appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP) while Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Benazir Ahmed made the Director General of the police’s crime busting unit – Rapid Action Battalion (Rab). The reshuffle in the top level of police administration came on Tuesday. An official release said Shahidul Haque will replace Hassan Mahmood Khandker at the helm of the police while Benazir will step into the boots of Mokhlesur Rahman, the outgoing Rab chief. A DMP statement said, DIG (Highway) Asaduzzman Miah will take over as the DMP commissioner. Tuesday’s major reshuffle in the police administration also saw Additional IGP Mukhleshur Rahman, chief of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), being transferred to the Police Headquarters (HQs). Sources in police HQs said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina signed the appointment letters in the afternoon, according to a news agency.
