Shakib pragmatic about Asia Cup expectations

Bangladesh's newly appointed T20 skipper Shakib al Hasan said on Saturday if anyone believes the team's fortunes can change in a day or two then they are living in a fool's paradise, reports Cricbuzz.
The BCB appointed Shakib as their new captain until the upcoming T20 World Cup in the hopes of a turnaround considering they are lagging far behind in the shortest format.
BCB also opted to include Sridharan Sriram as their technical director with the hope to see that if his experience can help Bangladesh in the upcoming international assignments that include Asia Cup and a tri-series in New Zealand involving Pakistan. The board has also said that they are planning to introduce split coaching from the next edition of the Asia Cup. It will, thereby, mark the end of Russell Domingo's time in Bangladesh as the all-formats head coach.
On the contrary, though, Shakib didn't sound entirely confident of all these moves but wanted to ensure nobody remains under the impression that any one factor can change the team's T20s approach drastically. The all-rounder urged everyone to have patience, ad said that if they can perform well in the World Cup that follows after the Asia Cup, it will prove that they are at least on the right track.
"I have no goals," Shakib told reporters in Dhaka. "My only aim is that we can do well in the World Cup and these are the preparations for it. "If someone thinks that I can change things within one or two days or someone else will come to change it, then we are living in a fool's kingdom. If you are able to think practically, our true development will be seen when the team really does well in the World Cup in three months' time.
"See, we first played this type of version (format) in 2006. Since then, we have not had good results, except the Asia Cup final. We are far behind in this version from that point so we have no choice but to make a new start.
Shakib added that he is not expecting Sriram, who is arriving tomorrow, to do miracles overnight. "I don't think there are many things to expect from him as he (Sriram) has been a part of a team like Australia for five years and our World Cup will also be in Australia so his experience will be helpful for us.”
