Shakib shines with leather, Rubel roars

World record holder Shakib al Hasan and fast bowler Rubel Hossain guided Legends of Rupganj to a 76-run win over renowned sports outfit Abahani Ltd in the first match of the 2nd round of Dhaka Premier League’s Super Sixes cricket tournament in Narayanganj on Saturday. Batting first after winning the toss the Shakib al Hasan-led Legends of Rupganj made 221 runs in 39.5 overs in the 40-over-a-side match. Jahurul Islam top-scored with 93 runs. After the departure of opener Mosharraf Hossain for 30 in 4 overs, number three batsman Jahurul Islam pairing with Zunaid Siddique contributed 68 runs in 13.1 overs in the 2nd wicket stand. In his 93 off 108 balls, Jahurul Islam hit three 4s and four 6s while Zunaid Siddique scored 42 runs off 49 balls with five 4s. Shakib (18), Abul Hasan (15) and Alok Kapali (13) were the other double digit run-getters. Shubhashis Roy grabbed four wickets for 42 runs in 8 overs while Mostafizur Rahman captured three wickets conceding 51 in 7.5 overs. Al-Amin took one wicket for 33 in 7 overs. Set a winning target of 222, Abahani managed to make 145 in 34.4 overs. Number four Rakibul Hasan scored the team’s highest 45 off 52 balls with five 4s while skipper Ziaur Rahman hit 38 from 36 balls with a 4 and three 4s. Hamilton Masakadza (25) and opener Liton Kumar Das (10) were the other Abahani double digit scorers. Ace all-rounder Shakib and pacer Rubel shone with the leather grabbing three wickets each conceding 25 and 29 runs respectively in 7 and 7.4 overs. Mosharraf Hossain took 2 wickets for 27 runs in 5 overs while Nayeem Islam (Junior) bagged 1/30 in 7 overs, according to a news agency.
