Wednesday, 14 January 2015
Ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan's four-wicket haul enabled his side Melbourne Renegades to taste their 3rd win in the T-20 Big Bash League (BBL) as they beat Brisbane Heat by five wickets at Docklands Stadium, Melbourne Tuesday, reports UNB.
Shakib conceded 13 runs to grab four wickets in his four overs spell. Apart from his four wickets, he also helped Renegades take Alister McDermott by a nice catch while upset Andrew Flintoff by a run out.
On his way to four wickets haul, Shakib took two top order batsmen Daniel Christian, Jason Floros, Chris Lynn and opponent's highest scorer number eight Ben Cutting (30) to be adjudged man of the match.
Sent in to bat first, Brisbane Heat were bundled out cheaply for 80 runs in 17.3 overs.
Chasing a meager target of 81 runs, Renegades reached the target for five wickets in 14 overs, riding on an unbeaten 6th wicket stand of 42 runs in 4.4 overs, contributed by Tom Beaton and skipper BJ Rohrer.
Number seven Tom Beaton hit team highest unbeaten 31 runs off 16 balls with two fours and two sixes while Ben Rohrer added unbeaten 25 runs.
Shakib faced 3 balls to score 2 runs.
Shakib was included in the Renegades squad in place of Andre Russell, who was called in West Indies ODI team to play against South Africa, for this season as the number one all-rounder in T20 cricket just before the last four group stage matches.
However, according to the latest ICC rankings published on Monday last (January 12), Shakib is at the top of the all-rounder lists in all the three formats-Test, ODI and T20 -- of cricket securing 398, 403 and 377 rating points respectively. Shakib is the first cricketer who has achieved such feat in the history of cricket.
In the remaining group match Monday (January 19) at 2:30 pm (Bangladesh time), Melbourne Renegades will face Adelaide Strikers-for which Shakib played two matches in the last season BBL-at Docklands Stadium in Melbourne.
