Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan's dominance in ICC ODI all-rounder rankings came to an end finally when Afghanistan's Mohammad Nabi replaced him as new No.1 after smashing a century in the first ODI against Sri Lanka in Pallekele, report agencies.
Prior to this, Shakib had held this position for more than five years. He held the position for a record 4,276 days, with an unbroken stretch of 1,739 days since May 07, 2019. He took over from Rashid Khan. This marks the longest uninterrupted tenure at the top of the ODI rankings for any player. Kapil Dev comes next with 3,816 days which includes two stints of 1,376 and 1,375 days.
Nabi's remarkable 136-run performance in the first ODI against Sri Lanka propelled him to the top spot, making him the oldest player (39 years, one month) to achieve this status.
This accomplishment surpasses the previous record held by Tillakaratne Dilshan, who was 38 years and 8 months old when he topped the rankings in June 2015.
Shakib hasn't played for Bangladesh since the ODI World Cup in India last year, and has been ruled out of their upcoming white-ball series against Sri Lanka due to an eye condition. He has, however, been in action for Rangpur Riders in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League season.
