FE Report
Md Shakil Rizvi has been elected president of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) for a one-year term.
Mr Shakil, a senior DSE member and managing director of Shakil Rizvi Stock Limited, had served as the vice president of the country's premier bourse in the immediate past year.
He was elected at the 48th annual general meeting (AGM) of the DSE at a city hotel Saturday, said a press release. Rizvi succeeds the outgoing DSE president Md Rakibur Rahman who presided over the AGM with DSE directors and members attending.
Mohammed Nasir Uddin Chowdhury, chief executive officer and director of LankaBangla Securities, was elected senior vice-president, replacing Saiful Islam who served as senior vice-president in the past two consecutive years, and Rafiqul Islam vice-president of the DSE for the same period.
Four new directors were inducted into the board. They are Rakibur Rahman, Ahmed Iqbal Hasan, Khawja Ghulam Rasul and Sharif Ataur Rahman.
The new directors replaced Hanif Bhuiyan, MA Quyem, Abdul Haqe and Rakibur Rahman.
As per the DSE constitution, four directors resign voluntarily to pave the way for electing four new policy-makers every year in the 12-member executive board, which enjoys enormous clout in the decision making of the $35 billion bourse board of directors.
But the amended constitution, made a few months back, allows resigned directors for contesting polls for the post of director of the board. Rakibur Rahman was elected as a new director taking advantage of the amended constitution.
