Shameem eyes end to river erosion in all affected areas
FE Report | Tuesday, 15 January 2019
Deputy Minister for Water Resources AKM Enamul Hoque Shameem has said he looks to stop river erosion in all affected areas of the country.
He directed authorities concerned to come up with a plan to this end, he said while talking to journalists on Sunday.
He also talked to the people of river erosion-affected areas of Jajira and Naria upazilas in Shariatpur on his first visit to the area after taking over as the deputy minister.
He also saw for himself the progress in the work under a riverbank protection project in the Purba Naria area on the bank of the mighty river Padma. The area was badly affected during the last season when the river was in spate.
He expressed his hope that it would be possible to put an end to river erosion in the area well before the next rainy season. He asserted that not a single inch of land would be lost to erosion any more after implementation of the project.
Shariatpur-1 MP Iqbal Hossain Apu, Shariatpur-3 MP Nahim Razzak and Shariatpur District Council Chairman Sabedur Rahman Khoka Sikder were also present on the occasion.
