Shamim Osman being quizzed by probe body

The probe body, formed by the government to investigate the alleged involvement of law enforcers including RAB officials in Narayanganj 7 murders, started questioning Awami League MP AKM Shamim Osman on Tuesday. The 7-member investigation committee, headed by Public Administration Ministry’s additional secretary Shahjahan Ali Mollah, started quizzing Osman at Secretariat in Dhaka around 11am. The Public Administration Ministry on May 7 formed the panel following a High Court order to look into the alleged involvement of RAB officials in abductions and killings of 7 people in Narayanganj in April. So far, the panel has questioned 356 people in connection with the murders. On April 27, Narayanganj City Corporation’s panel mayor Nazrul Islam, his three associates and driver, were abducted by from Fatullah area of the city. Hours after their abduction, senior lawyer of Narayanganj District Judge’s Court Chandan Kumar Sarker and his driver were also abducted on their way to Dhaka. Three days into their abduction, the bodies of six people, including that of Nazrul and Chandan Kumar, were recovered from Shitalakkha River on April 30. The body of another abducted man was recovered from Dhaleswari River on May 1, according to a news agency.
