Shammi bags gold in Taekwondo

Shammi Akhter of Bangladesh enthralled the partisan crowd with a stunning performance at the National Sports Council gymnasium as she captured the gold medal of the women's 49 kg event defeating Sadiya Imdad of Pakistan in the final in the city Sunday, reports BSS.
The girl from Magura created an unparallel ecstasy in the gymnasium with the unexpected gold for the country. From the very beginning Shammi was in an aggressive mood and never allowed Sadia to take control of the bout.
She won by 4-2 points to grab the gold she never expected. Even the team officials were at a loss for some moments when Shammi was declared as the winner.
Shammi earlier defeated Niranji Dinusha to make the final against Sadiya.
Shammi was also surprised with the feat. 'I never thought of winning the gold but was determined to put the best show in the final show, we have practised a lot for the ultimate success and I suddenly felt that I have the power to conquer the title, my coach encouraged me and I did it,' said Shammi.
Shammi said at the moment Taekwondo remains as her only dream. 'In my childhood I thought to earn higher educational degrees but it did not happen, when I entered the taekwondo I thought about winning big titles, at last my dream came true', said Shammi.
Shammi looked forward to continuing the trend. 'Our standard of Taekwondo is quite high and we can match the established powerhouses with continuous training', said Shammi.
Shammi said that the gold medal feat of her friend Farzana Sharmin Rumi boosted all the members of the Taekwondo team and she believes that Taekwondo will fetch another two gold medals to the country.
