Sharsha mourns 7 child victims

Benapole is preparing to lay to rest the seven children who were killed in a road accident at Chougacha Upazila in Jessore on Saturday night. Classes were cancelled in the schools in Sharsha Upazila on Sunday and black flags fluttered from school tops to mark the loss. Three days of mourning was announced in the municipality by Mayor Ashraful Alam Liton. The students of Benapole Government Primary School were returning from a picnic in a bus when its driver, trying to overtake a truck, drove the vehicle into a pond at Chougahca’s Jhautola. Seven children died and more than 50 were injured. Namaz-e-Janaja for the seven children were held at Ball Field at Benapole union in Sharsha at 2pm on Sunday, said Ohidul Islam, Upazila Primary Education Officer. The deceased are between of age 10 to 11. They are Runa, Shanto, Suraiya, Zeba, Mitali, alias Mithila, Akhi and Sabbir. Of them, five are from Chotazra village. Suraiya and Zeba, who died in the accident, are sisters, according to bdnews24.com.
