Sheikh Afil comes under attack in Jessore

Awami League MP-elect from Jessore-1 constituency Sheikh Afil Uddin who was yet to be sworn in came under attack by his party men in Jhikargachha upazila on Wednesday. Witnesses said supporters of ruling party-backed candidate in the upazila polls Monirul Islam and party rebel contestant Musa Mahmud engaged in a clash at Krishnanagar Katakhal of the upazila headquarters at noon. The supporters of Monirul attacked the vehicle of Afil when he was passing by the area after taking part in campaign in favour of Musa. Windowpanes of his Prado jeep were damaged in the attack. However, Afil escaped the attack unhurt as his driver sped away promptly. Officer-in-charge of Jhikargachha Police Station Syed Quamruzzaman said police brought the situation under control when two groups of Awami League activists engaged in a clash, according to a news agency.
