Monday, 17 May 2010

Speakers at a meeting Sunday said that the country was passing through a crucial time due to the conspiracy of a vested quarter for destroying the values of the War of Liberation and that only the strong leadership of Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina could save the country's democracy from the present desperate situation.
Bangabandhu Academy organised the meeting at the auditorium of Dhaka Reporters' Unity (DRU) in the city marking the homecoming day of the PM, reports UNB.
Awami League (AL) Presidium Member Obaidul Quader attended the discussion as chief guest while Women Affairs Secretary Fazilatunnesa Indra, Central AL Leader AKM Fazlul Haque, Advocate Khondaker Shamsul Haque Reza of Supreme Court and organising secretary of Krishak League MA Karim as special guests.
Chairman of Bang-abandhu Academy Hemayet Uddin presided over the discussion.
Obaidul Quader said, "May 17 carries a significant message for the country as Sheikh Hasina returned home after a long exile following the brutal killing of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most of his family members on August 15 and Jail Killing on November 3 in 1975."
He said that the people of Bangladesh wanted a country free from poverty, terrorism and militancy but the BNP-Jamaat was busy in making personal gains.
Obaidul Quader said independence and sovereignty of the country would remain safeguarded as long as all uphold the ideals of Bangabandhu.
He called upon all to take fresh vow to build a non-communal, democratic and developed country.
