Sheikh Jamal meet Farashganj in inaugural match tomorrow

Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club will meet Farashganj SC in the inaugural match of the 12-team Independence Cup Football Tournament that begins tomorrow (Sunday) at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in the city, reports UNB.
The 2nd edition of the Independence Cup Football will kick-off at 4:30 pm.
Bangladesh League champions Dhaka Abahani Limited will face Chittagong Mohammedan SC in the other opening day's fixture at 6:30 pm at the same venue.
Former general secretary of Bangladesh Football Federation Harun-ur Rashid, also a member of the present executive committee, disclosed the details at a press conference at the BFF Bhaban on Friday afternoon.
Addressing the press conference, Harun said: "We're very sorry for not being able to organise the Independence Cup Football on regular basis in the past. The BFF has now decided to hold the tournament on regular basis in future."
BFF members Fazlur Rahman Babul, Sheikh Mohammad Aslam, Satyajit Das Rupu, Amirul Islam Babu and Hassanuzzaman Khan Bablu, and former national striker Imtiaz Ahmed Naquib were present at the press conference.
The four top teams of the ongoing Bangladesh League lead the four groups.
Group A - Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club, Rahmatganj MFS and Farashganj SC;
Group B - Sheikh Russell KC, Dhaka Mohammedan SC and Chittagong Abahani Ltd;
Group C - Muktijoddha Sangsad KC, Arambagh KS and Feni Soccer Club; and
Group D - Dhaka Abahani Ltd, Brothers Union Club and Chittagong Mohammedan SC.
