Sheikh Jamal retain title

National star-studded Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club retained the Federation Cup Football crown beating Muktijoddha Sangsad KC by 6-4 goals in a high-scoring keenly contested final at the floodlit Bangabandhu National Stadium in the city Thursday, reports UNB.
It was the 3rd Federation Cup crown for the Dhanmondi outfit Sheikh Jamal DC within four years after clinching the season's curtain-raiser soccer meet, the Federation Cup in 2011 and 2013. They finished runners-up in 2012 losing to Sheikh Russel KC in the final.
The title deciding keenly contested match between two teams was locked in 4-4 goals in the stipulated 90 minutes and Sheikh Jamal took the match in favour of them scoring two successive goals in the extra session of another 30 minutes.
State Minister for Land Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Javed was the chief guest in the final and later he distributed the prizes. Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports Arif Khan Joy was also present as the special guest.
Haitian booter of Sheikh Jamal DC Wedson Anselme won all three honours of the tournament as he was adjudged the best player of the tournament, highest scorer of the tournament and the man of the final.
In the day's competitive final, Sheikh Jamal DC opened the floodgate in the 6th minute when their Nigerian forward Emeka Darlington headed home off a Sohel Rana curved cross from the right flank (1-0).
However, lady luck smiled for Muktijoddha Sangsad KC just one minute later as Sheikh Jamal conceded an own goal. Defender Yeamin Ahmed Chowdhury Munna, standing in the six-yard box, deflected a Faisal Mahmud cross into his own net (1-1).
Sheikh Jamal took lead again in the 13th minute when Raihan Hasan's long throw was back heeled by Darlington to Haitian forward Wedson Anselme, who sent the ball to net by a fierce left footer (2-1).
Muktijoddha made a good comeback for the second time in the 30th minute as their Senegalese forward Camara Sarba scored the equaliser.
A long throw of Enamul Haque dipped into the middle of the Jamal box and Moroccan defender Abbas Inusah tapped the ball to Camara, who beat Jamal goalie Shahedul Alam Sohel by a cool shot (2-2).
In the 39th minute, Muktijoddha skipper-cum-forward Enamul Haque put his team ahead by a brilliant header from goalmouth melee, utilising a curved corner of Akramuzzaman Liton from right flank (3-2).
Enamul again sounded the freedom fighters' margin in a span of just two minutes (41st minute) by a spectacular placing shot from goalmouth off a Camara Sarba header (4-2).
Sheikh Jamal returned to the match in the 62nd minute. Gambian midfielder Landing Darboe sent a through pass to Wedson, who dribbled past Muktis goalie Titumir Chowdhury and placed the ball into the net (4-3).
Wedson completed his hat-trick and levelled the margin in the 70th minute. Intercepting a missed pass of Muktijoddha defender, Wedson entered the box and sent the ball home after dribbling past two opponent defenders (4-4) to force the match to the extra time.
Darlington netted the 5th goal for Sheikh Jamal in the 107th minute by a placing shot on a cutback of Landing Darboe (5-4).
