Sunday, 28 September 2008

Veteran striker Alfaz Ahmed scored the first hattrick of the Citycell B League as Sheikh Russell KC drubbed Khulna Abahani KC by 5-0 goals in the day's lone match at the Bangabandhu National Stadium (BNS) in the city Saturday, reports UNB.
This was also the biggest margin of victory for any side in the ongoing league.
In the day's one-sided affair, Sheikh Russell KC led the first half 2-0.
With the day's result, Sheikh Russell KC secured seven points while Khulna Abahani remained at three points, both playing three matches.
Alfaz Ahmed scored three goals for his hattrick, while Mohammad Monwar Hossain and Moroccan recruit Ezzanzoun Said netted one goal apiece for the winners.
Monwar opened the account for Sheikh Russell KC in the very 6th minute when he found the net with a shot from inside the D-box capitalising on a right side Aminul Islam cross (1-0).
Alfaz then scored his first goal, the 2nd for his team, in the 23rd minute with a powerful grounder after he was fed by Said (2-0).
After the lemon break, Sk Russell KC continued their dominance over Khulna KC and notched the 3rd goal when Said getting a back heel pass from his compatriot Ighir slotted the ball home between the legs of opponent custodian Nahid Uddin (3-0).
Alfaz then increased the miseries for the Khulna-based club netting his 2nd and the 4th for his side in the 70th minute with a close range tap after getting a minus from Said (4-0).
Alfaz, one of the country's most successful forwards, completed his hattrick to seal the fate of the match in the 78th minute by placing the ball into the net almost from a 0 degree angle after dodging past substitute goalie Foyez Ahmed (5-0).
Khulna Abahani, which was off-colour throughout the match, launched a formidable attack in the 62nd minute but Kazi Monjurul's shot from the right side of the D-box was grasped by custodian Biplob in his 2nd attempt.
After the match, Alfaz in his immediate reaction said: "I always used to play in the big teams, but this time I am playing for such a team which is not so big in name. I took this as a challenge and I had to work very hard."
Replying to a query, he said the reason behind such a performance is his recall in the national side for the coming Merdeka Cup. "Gazi Bhai (coach Wazed Gazi) also inspired me."
Asked how long he wants to play for the national side, Alfaz said this totally depends on age and also on performance.
Meanwhile, the 4th round of the B League will resume from October 7 after the Eid-ul-Fitr vacation.
