Shelling in close proximity to MH17 crash site

Sunday, 27 July 2014

Heavy shelling was heard on Sunday just 1 kilometre away from the rebel-held Grabove, the village next to the crash site of Malaysian flight MH17 in east Ukraine, an AFP photographer said. Terrified local residents were fleeing, and black smoke could be seen near the crash site, said the photographer, adding that checkpoints controlled by rebels were abandoned. Dutch and Australian police who were due to head to the location had decided to scrap their visit over security concerns, according to AFP.
