The housing fair of Sheltech, one of the country's leading real estate companies, ended with a positive response, though the real estate sector is facing a tough time.
Sheltech managing director Toufiq M Seraj told the FE, "We have got a lot of response and booking money worth Tk 50 million and expect to get around Tk 500 million in investment in the next two months."
"The real estate sector of our country is suffering a setback now due to skyrocketing price of land, construction materials and high labour cost and bank interest rate."
He said: "We offered 15 per cent discount for buying a piece of land or a flat in installment and up to 20 per cent discount for full payment of the same in the year ending fair."
"Buying a flat or a plot is now beyond the range of middle income group but in year-ending fair we got good response from middle income group people due to big discount offer," he added
He said: "Small flats of Uttara, Mohammadpur and Razarbagh were popular among the visitors in the fair rather than Banani and Dhanmondi."
Primarily Sheltech has planned to run a 15-day long fair from December 1 to December 15 but due to customer's demand the company continued the fair to December 31.
Sheltech MD said: "This is for the first time we introduced raffle draw in the fair with minimum booking money of Tk 1.0 million."
He also said: "The raffle draw winner will get a car. We will announce the name of the lucky winner within a month."
According the offer, the price of per square feet of a flat came down to nearly Tk 14,000 and Tk 16,000 in the city's posh areas like Banani and Dhanmondi from the existing rate of Tk 16,000 and Tk 21,500 after 15 per cent discount.
