Sher-e-Bangla death anniversary being observed

The 52nd death anniversary of Sher-e-Bangla AK Fazlul Haque is being observed in the city as other parts of the country with due respect. Various political and socio-cultural organizations and educational institutions, including Awami League, BNP, Dhaka Chittagong universities, have chalked out elaborate programmes to mark the day. The programmes include placing wreaths and offering fateha at the grave of the great leader, milad mahfil and discussion meeting in the city and elsewhere across the country. President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia issued separate messages on the occasion. AK Fazlul Haque passed away on April 27 in 1962. AK Fazlul Haque held different political posts, including those of the mayor of Kolkata (1935), chief minister of undivided Bengal (1937-1943) and East Pakistan (1954), home minister of Pakistan (1955) and governor of East Pakistan (1956- 58), according to UNB.
