Sheraton hands over ‘check-out for children cheque’ to Unicef

Tuesday, 21 August 2007

Dhaka Sheraton Hotel handed over two cheques worth Tk. 0.77 million (7.7 lakh) to Unicef Monday, said a press release.
The amount was raised through the 'Check-out for Children' initiative in 2006.
The hotel organised the check-out for children concert in 2006 for the benefit of children where it drew funds worth Tk 0.36m (3.69 lakh).
Moreover, as a donation to Unicef, hotel occupants are invited to donate US$ 1 (or equivalent in local currency) upon their check out.
General Manager of the hotel Trevor MacDonald handed over two cheques to Country Representative of Unicef Bangladesh Louis-Georges Arsenault.
"Dhaka Sheraton Hotel is going to organise yet another event in conjunction with NTV at the Winter Garden Thursday. Earth Foundation has sponsored the event and Radio Today will promote as a partner. In the event, one of the famous international musical bands 'Nagar Baul' (James) and Musique Sense from Philippines will perform.
It will also have popular models perform in a fashion show," MacDonald announced after handing over the cheque.
"We consider this a great accomplishment and we are proud to donate the fund to such a wonderful cause," he said.
McDonald also said that Unicef's immunisation programme was chosen by Starwood because it saves lives and is essential to provide children with a basic start in life, without which children would never survive, let alone have chance to go to school or benefit from the opportunities that life presents.
"As a company, Starwood embraces this aim of providing the most fundamental of protection to the world's neediest children," he added.
