Sherpur district BNP vice-president jailed for 12 years

SHERPUR, Nov 6 (UNB): The district BNP vice-president was sentenced to jail for 12 years for extortion and cheating.
Joint district judge Sheikh Mafizur Rahman handed down the punishment to Fazlul Haq Lovelu on different charges. He was also fined Tk 5,000, in default to suffer one year in prison.
District BNP secretary and former MP Mahmudul Haq Rubel and three others were acquitted in the case.
The prosecution said that the accused had forcibly occupied the land property of Rabiul Alam at Shibbari through forged documents. They were also involved in extortion.
