Shibir-called strike observed at RU, four arrested

RAJSHAHI UNIVERSITY, June 26: Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS) enforced strike was observed through bus rampage and cocktail explosion on the Rajshahi University (RU) campus Thursday. Four Shibir activists were arrested for vandalising a student bus in the city.
Shibir men called the day long strike at RU demanding immediate arrest of those involved in chopping off one of the legs of Rasel Alam, general secretary of Nawab Abdul Latif Hall unit of Shibir on June 16.
Campus sources and police sources said that Shibir activists exploded 4 cocktails and vandalised two student buses of the university.
Two cocktails went off in front of the RU administrative building-2 while one in front of the main entrance gate at around at 8.00 amĀ  and another exploded on the left side of university's first science building at about 8:30am. None was injured in the bomb explosion.
Besides, law enforces recovered an unexploded cocktail from the transportation office premises.
A tense situation was prevailing on the campus over the bomb explosion.
Moreover, striking activists vandalised two university buses, one at 8.30am at Bornali intersection and also threw cocktail on another bus at Auctroy Moode area of the city.
Later, police arrested four Shibir activists from Mondol intersection area on the charge of rampaging university bus.
Sources said no academic activities including classes and examinations were held in any department as services of all university busses remained suspended due to the strike.
Besides, Shibir activists locked the academic and administrative building of the university in the morning.
Proctor Tariqul Hasan told reporters that all modes of transport of the campus were kept off the streets fearing rampage from the morning.
Additional cops were deployed inside and outside the varsity to avert any violence.
