An Islami Chhatra Shibir leader has been injured in Shatkhira during what police claimed was a 'shootout'. The victim has been identified as Shamsur Rahman Bulbul, president of Kolaroya Upazila unit of Shibir, the student affiliate of Jamaat-e-Islami. Police said they raided the Upazila’s Gopinathpur village on a tip-off that Shibir activists have gathered to unleash violence. Sensing police’s presence, the Shibir men opened fire and lobbed bombs and the police retaliated, Satkhira’s Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Kazi Moniruzzaman said. ‘After the shootout Bulbul was found hit by bullets, while the others managed to escape,’ he added, according to bdnews24.com.
