Shibir man injured in Satkhira police firing

A local activist of Islami Chhatra Shibir was injured by bullets during a clash with police at Debhata upazila in Satkhira on Thursday morning. The injured was identified as Milon Babu Sohag, 22, son of Shahadat Gazi, a resident of Sakhipur village at the upazila. Kazi Sagir Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Debhata Police Station, said on secret information that a group of Shibir men was holding a clandestine meeting at a school playground at Sakhipur, a police team conducted a drive there at about 6:00 am. Sensing police presence, the Shibir men started hurling crude bombs at the law enforcers, leaving two cops injured. Police also, in retaliation, fired three rounds of bullet to disperse the Shibir activists, leaving Sohag bullet-hit. However, his associates managed to escape. Injured Sohag was admitted to Satkhira Sadar Hospital under police custody. He is an accused in the local Awami League leader Abu Raihan killing case, the OC added, according to UNB.
