Ship carrying food grains arrives at Mongla

KHULNA, Mar 25: A ship carrying food grains has anchored at Mongla Port after three and half years. Maltese flag carrying ship MV Manna with 17400 metric tons of wheat imported by the government from Ukraine had anchored at the port Saturday night.
Sources said the port authority and the members of law enforcing agencies are supervising the unloading work. Meanwhile, the retrenched dock labourers have called off their continuous strike and the unloading of the ship had started on Sunday under the management of Stevedores Union and Unit Mari Time Ltd, the local operator of the ship.
An emergency meeting was held at the Mongla Port Authority conference room about the labour unrest in the port area and its subsequent withdrawal. The meeting was attended by MPA chairman (Acting) Abdul Mannan, member operation Lutfar Rahman, upazila chairman Idris Ali, vice chairman Nur-Alam, labour leaders, Shahbuddin, Mahbubur Rahman, Abdur Rashid Talukder and Babul Khan.
