Ship rammed by oil-tanker sinks in Meghna

A ship carrying 1,300 tonnes of cement clinker sank in the Meghna River after being hit by an oil-tanker. No casualties have been reported in the accident that occurred at Harisabha of Chandpur’s Puranbazar area around 7:30am on Tuesday. Marine Police has seized the tanker, MV Hikmat, which was going to Ghorashal of Narsingdi. Dhaka-bound MV Chitalmari capsized after MV Hikmat rammed it from behind, Zahidul Islam, in-charge of the Marine Police out-post in Chandpur, said quoting witnesses. Its 12 crew members managed to swim to shore with help from locals. Coast Guard and fire men were looking for the sunken vessel, according to bdnews24.com.
