Ship with 12,000MT rice leaves for Colombo

A cargo ship, carrying 12,000 metric tonnes (MT) of rice, has set sails for Sri Lanka. Bangladesh Shipping Corporation’s (BSC) cargo ship ‘MV Banglar Kakoli’ left Chittagong Port on Saturday afternoon for Colombo sea port with the rice. This is the biggest ever consignment of rice that exported by Bangladesh as the government decided to sell the staple fooditem abroad after attaining self-sufficiency in crops production and ensuring sufficient food reserve for people. Director General of Food Directorate M Sarwar Khan was present at the Chittagong Port while rice-laden ‘Banglar Kakoli’ left the country’s main sea port around 1:50pm. Jahirul Islam of food directorate of Chittagong region was also present. He informed that the loading of 12,000 toness of rice was complete on Friday. He infurther informed that loading of rice started on December 17. In the next consignment, another BSC cargo vessel will leave for Colombo with 12,000 toness of rice, he added, according to private TV channels.
