KHULNA, Aug 4 (BSS): For the first time in the history of Mongla Port, a container ship with 8.5-metre draft docked at the port on Thursday.
The Singapore flag carrier 'MV Maersk Nusantara' arrived at the jetty No. 9 of the sea port, loaded with 489 TUEs of containers, Captain Md Asaduzzaman, member (Harbour and Marine) of Mongla Port Authority (MPA), told BSS.
The ship carried imported commodities, including foreign tiles, fabrics, parts of three-wheelers, and various electronic goods, such as LED television, he said, adding that it will leave the jetty after loading over 367 TUEs of containers loaded with readymade garments, Jute and Jute goods and frozen foods, including shrimp.
"Export and import through Mongla Sea Port has increased from last year after the inauguration of the Padma Bridge. This is the first time that an 8.5-metre-draft foreign ship has docked at this port, as the government is implementing huge infrastructural development work, including dredging for the port," he added.
