Shipping Minister visits Western Marine Shipyard

CHITTAGONG, Jan 18: Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan visited the Western Marine Shipyard on Friday to witness the progress of government projects in the yard.
He was accompanied by Secretary of the Ministry of Shipping Syed Monjurul Islam, Chairman of BIWTA Dr Md Shamsuddoha Khondoker, Chairman of BIWTC Mojibor Rahman and Chairman of Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) Rear Admiral Mohammad Nizamuddin Ahmed. Currently new building projects of five government ships are underway in the Western Marine Shipyard. Four of these ships are at their completion stage, a press release of the WMS said.
Of them, two ships are 750 passenger ships each for Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) and two others are port utility vessels, 60 tonne BP tug boat and a Water Supply Vessels for CPA.
These vessels are expected to be delivered in a few months. A 60 meter long RoRo ferry is also under construction in the shipyard. The shipyard built a similar ferry called BirShrestha Md Ruhul Amin which was delivered to the BIWTC in July 2011.
