Shirin emerges champion in Nat'l Women's Chess

Sharmin Sultana Shirin of Titas Club emerged unbeaten champion in the Sultana Kamal 33rd National Women's Chess Championship securing 9.5 points after the 11th and last round matches at the Bangladesh Chess Federation hall-room Thursday, reports UNB.
This is the 2nd national crown for Shirin in the women's chess meet after lifting her maiden title in 2009.
Last year's champion and WIM Shamima Akter Liza of Narayanganj Pritom-Prisom Chess Club, who shared the top slot with Shirin until the 10th round matches Wednesday, finished runner-up securing 9 points.
WFM Nazrana Khan Eva of Titas Club became 3rd collecting 8 points while WIM Rani Hamid was placed 4th securing 7.5 points.
WFM Zakia Sultana of Agrani Bank became 5th with 6.5 points, Shimmi was placed 6th with 6 points, Protiva ranked 7th with 5 points, Tani was placed 8th and Hamida 9th despite securing 4 points each, Mahmuda finished 10th with 3.5 points while Annie was placed 11th and last collecting three points.
In the day's 11th round matches, Shirin beat Zakia, Eva defeated Moly while Protiva beat Hamida.
Liza drew with Rani Hamid, Shimmi got walkover against Annie while Tani got walkover against Moni in the day's other encounters.
The prize distribution ceremony of the meet was held after the day's matches at the conference room of National Sports Council. Vice President of Bangladesh Chess Federation KM Shahidullah distributed the prizes.
